Editorial Board Qualifications and Duties:
Editorial Board Members must be educators with primary work assignments in the field of student affairs or higher education, with records of scholarship and experience suitable to evaluate research manuscripts concerning issues and topics of interest. Board members are appointed by the NYJSA Journal Co-Editors and CSPA-NYS President in consultation with the CSPA-NYS Faculty Liaison and serve a two-year term.
The Editorial Board will consist of Co-Editors, a Copy Editor, a Managing Editor as well as the Editorial Review Board. In selecting members, an aim is to have a diverse board, representative of a wide variety of scholarly interest, educators (faculty and practitioners) and institutions. The Co-Editors should be representative of both faculty and practitioners, aligning with the scope and mission of the NYJSA.
Individuals interested in serving on the Editorial Review Board for the NYJSA should contact the NYJSA Editor(s). Additional questions should be directed to the NYJSA Journal Editor(s).
Position Descriptions:
Co-Editors:
Perform initial evaluation of submitted manuscripts to ensure content is within the scope of the journal and submission adheres to style guidelines.
Compile Editorial Review Board comments and recommendations to determine publishing decision on all manuscripts.
Provide manuscript authors with reviewer comments and work with author’s on recommended revisions for publication.
Work with the CSPA-NYS Faculty Liaison on cultivation of manuscripts for journal and the solicitation of feature articles.
Work with the CSPA-NYS Faculty Liaison to solicit membership for the NYJSA Editorial Board on an annual basis.
Communicate and work with Copy Editor and Managing Editor to ensure that content is reviewed and published in a timely manner.
Write Editor’s Comments for publication.
Copy Editor:
Conduct first technical review and recommend grammatical and APA style revisions to author(s) before submitting manuscript to editorial board for further review.
Compile and update style guides as required.
Managing/Layout Editor:
To ensure all Editorial Board members are properly trained on the manuscript review process.
To assign manuscripts to Editorial Board members based on areas of expertise and research background.
To monitor the progress of manuscripts to ensure timely processing.
To ensure the review process is carried out with fairness and integrity. In particular, to ensure that procedures for exposing and managing conflicts-of-interest are in place and adhered to.
To ensure the editorial management system (Open Journal Systems) contains a complete and accurate record of the status of each submitted manuscript.
To complete the publishing process through the OJS journal management and publishing system.
Maintain accuracy of content on CSPA-NYS website regarding the NYJSA as well as the content regarding the NYJSA and publishing guidelines within OJS.
